A Jewish woman brought the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a poisoned sheep, and he ate from it. She was then brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he questioned her about it.She said, "I wanted to kill you."He said, "Allah would never give you power to do that." Or he said, "over me."They said, "Shall we kill her?"He replied, "No."Anas said, "I continued to recognize the effect of that poison in the uvula of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
أن امرأة يهودية أتت رسول الله ﷺ بشاة مسمومة، فأكل منها، فجيء بها إلى رسول الله ﷺ، فسألها عن ذلك؟ فقالت: أردت لأقتلك قال: ما كان الله ليسلطك على ذلك قال: أو قال: علي قال: قالوا: ألا نقتلها؟ قال: لا قال: فما زلت أعرفها في لهوات رسول الله ﷺ.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Gifts (2617) and Muslim in the Book of Greetings (2190), both from the hadith of Khalid bin Harith, who said, Shubah narrated to us, from Hisham bin Zayd, from Anas, and he mentioned it.This woman was Zaynab bint Harith, the sister of Marhab the Jew. Some reports mention that she was killed, because Bishr bin Bara bin Marur was also among those who ate from this poisoned sheep, and when he died, she was handed over to his heirs and they killed her. Qadi Iyad mentioned this, as Nawawi stated in his commentary on Muslim, meaning that they did not kill her at first, but when Bishr bin Bara died, an order was given to kill her.
