Awf bin Malik reported,

One night we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and each man among us let his mount graze freely. After a portion of the night had passed, I came upon the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with no one at its head.So I went off looking for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I came upon Muaz bin Jabal and Abdullah bin Qays standing there.I asked, "Where is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"They replied, "We do not know, except that we heard a sound at the upper end of the valley, like the humming of a saddle in motion."He said, "Wait here a little." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and said, "Tonight a messenger came to me from my Lord and gave me a choice between half of my nation entering paradise and intercession. I chose intercession."We said, "We implore you by Allah and by our companionship with you, include us among the people of your intercession."He said, "You are among the people of my intercession."Then we set off swiftly toward the people, and we found that they had grown alarmed and had been searching for their Prophet.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Tonight a messenger came to me from my Lord and gave me a choice between half of my nation entering paradise and intercession. I chose intercession."They said, "Messenger of Allah, we implore you by Allah and by our companionship with you, include us among the people of your intercession."When they crowded around him, he said, "I call you to witness that my intercession is for whoever does not associate anything with Allah."

عن عوف بن مالك الأشجعي قال

كنا عند رسول الله ﷺ ذات ليلة، فاقترض كل رجل منا قرأة راحلته، قال: فانتهيت إلى بعض الليل فإذا ناقة رسول الله ﷺ ليس قدامها أحد، قال: فانطلقت أطلب رسول الله ﷺ فإذا معاذ بن جبل وعبد الله بن قيس قائمان، قلت: أين رسول الله ﷺ؟ قالا: لا ندري غير أنا سمعنا صوتا بأعلى الوادي، فإذا مثل هزيز الرحل. قال: انكثوا يسيرا. ثم جاءنا رسول الله ﷺ فقال: أنه أتاني الليلة آت من ربي فخيرني بين أن يدخل نصف أمتي الجنة وبين الشفاعة فاخترت الشفاعة. فقلنا: ننشدك الله والصحبة لما جعلتنا من أهل شفاعتك. قال: فأنتكم من أهل شفاعتي. قال: فأقبلنا معانيق إلى الناس، فإذا هم قد فزعوا وفقدوا نبيهم، وقال رسول الله ﷺ: أنه أتاني الليلة آت من ربي فخيرني بين أن يدخل نصف أمتي الجنة وبين الشفاعة فاخترت الشفاعة. قالوا: يا رسول الله ننشدك الله والصحبة لما جعلتنا من أهل شفاعتك. قال: فلما أضبوا عليه، قال: فأنا أشهدكم أن شفاعتي لمن لا يشرك بالله شيئا.
