The people's provisions ran low and they were in dire need, so they came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking permission to slaughter their camels, and he granted them permission. Umar met them and they told him about it.Umar said, "How will you survive after your camels are gone?"He then went in to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, how will they survive after their camels are gone?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Call out to the people to bring whatever provisions they have left."A leather mat was spread out for that purpose and they placed their provisions on it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then stood and supplicated, invoking blessing upon it. Then he called for them to bring their containers, and the people scooped up provisions until they had taken their fill.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
خفت أزواد القوم وأملقوا، فأتوا النبي ﷺ في نحر إبلهم فأذن لهم، فلقيهم عمر فأخبروه فقال: ما بقاؤكم بعد إبلكم؟ فدخل على النبي ﷺ فقال: يا رسول الله، ما بقاؤهم بعد إبلهم؟ فقال رسول الله ﷺ: ناد في الناس، فيأتون بفضل أزوادهم. فبسط لذلك نطع وجعلوه على النطع، فقام رسول الله ﷺ فدعا وبرك عليه، ثم دعاهم بأوعيتهم، فاحتثى الناس حتى فرغوا، ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ: أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأني رسول الله ﷺ.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on partnership (2484), from Bishr bin Muhammad, who said, Hatim bin Ismail told us, from Yazid bin Abu Ubayd, from Salama bin Akwa, who mentioned it.Muslim narrated it in the chapter on lost property (1729) through another route, from Ikrima bin Ammar, from Iyas bin Salama, from his father, and it does not mention the story of Umar bin Khattab. He added in it, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Is there any water for wudu?" He said, a man came with a water skin of his containing a small amount of water, and he poured it into a bowl, and we all performed wudu from it, pouring it out vigorously, fourteen hundred of us. He said, then afterward eight more came and said, "Is there any water for purification?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The water for wudu is used up."His saying "nataan" means a leather mat or a spread cloth. His saying "nutfah" means a small amount of water. His saying "nadghafiquhu" means we poured it out vigorously.
