We arrived at Hudaybiyah with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we were fourteen hundred. At the well there were fifty sheep that could not get enough water from it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat at the edge of the well and either prayed or spat into it. The water then surged up, so we drank and drew water for our needs.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on jihad (132:1807) through several routes from Ikrima bin Ammar, who said, Iyas bin Salama narrated to me, my father narrated to me, and he mentioned it in a long hadith. As for his saying, "jaba al-rakiyah," it means the area surrounding the well, and rakiy means well.
