Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

On the day of the Trench, we were digging when a very hard rock obstructed us. The men came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "This rock has appeared in the trench and we cannot break it."He said, "I will come down."He stood up with a stone tied against his stomach, for we had spent three days without tasting any food. The Prophet ﷺ took the pickaxe and struck the rock, and it crumbled into a heap of soft sand.I said, "Messenger of Allah, give me permission to go home."I said to my wife, "I have seen the Prophet ﷺ in a state that I cannot bear. Do you have anything?"She replied, "I have some barley and a young female goat."So I slaughtered the goat and she ground the barley, then we put the meat in the pot. I came back to the Prophet ﷺ while the dough had been kneaded and the pot was set between the stones almost ready to cook.I said, "I have a small meal, so come, Messenger of Allah, you and one or two men."He asked, "How much is it?"I told him.He said, "It is plenty and good."Then he said, "Tell her not to take the pot off, nor the bread out of the oven, until I come."Then he said, "Get up." So the Emigrants and the Helpers all stood up.When I went in to my wife, I said, "Goodness, the Prophet ﷺ has come with the Emigrants and the Helpers and those with them."She asked, "Did he ask you how much we had?"I said, "Yes."He said, "Enter and do not crowd one another." Then he began breaking the bread, placing meat on it, and covering the pot and the oven each time he took from them. He would bring it close to his companions, then take more out. He kept breaking bread and ladling out food until they were all full, and there was still some left over.He said to her, "Eat this and give some as a gift, for the people have been struck by famine."
