Anas bin Malik reported,

The Prophet ﷺ sent his maternal uncle, the brother of Umm Sulaym, with seventy riders. The chief of the polytheists at that time was Amir bin Tufayl, who had been given a choice between three options. Amir said to the Prophet ﷺ, "You may have the people of the plains and I will have the people of the towns, or I will be your successor, or I will attack you with the people of Ghatafan, with a thousand bay horses and a thousand other horses."Then Amir was struck with a plague while in the house of a woman from a certain family. He said, "A swelling like the swelling of a young camel, in the house of a woman from such-and-such family! Bring me my horse." He died on the back of his horse.Haram, the brother of Umm Sulaym, set out along with a lame man and another man from a certain tribe. Haram said to his two companions, "Stay nearby until I reach them. If they grant me safety, you will join me, and if they kill me, you can return to your companions."He came to them and said, "Will you grant me safety so I may convey the message of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He began speaking to them, and they signaled to one of their men, who came up behind him and stabbed him. Hammam said, "I think he ran him through with the spear."Haram exclaimed, "Allah is the Greatest! I have triumphed, by the Lord of the Kaabah!"Then they pursued the other man and killed all of them except the lame one, who was on top of a mountain. Allah revealed to us, and it was later among what was abrogated, "We have met our Lord, and He has been pleased with us and made us pleased."The Prophet ﷺ then invoked curses against them for thirty mornings, against Ril, Zakwan, Banu Lihyan, and Usayyah, those who disobeyed Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

عن أنس

أن النبي ﷺ بعث خاله، أخا لأم سليم، في سبعين راكبا، وكان رئيس المشركين عامر بن الطفيل، خير بين ثلاث خصال: فقال: يكون لك أهل السهل ولي أهل المدر، أو أكون خليفتك، أو أغزوك بأهل غطفان بألف وألف؟ فطعن عامر في بيت أم فلان، فقال: غدة كغدة البكر، في بيت امرأة من آل فلان، ائتوني بفرسي، فمات على ظهر فرسه، فانطلق حرام أخو أم سليم، وهو رجل أعرج، ورجل من بني فلان، قال: كونا قريبا حتى آتيهم فإن آمنوني كنتم، وإن قتلوني أتيتم أصحابكم، فقال: أتؤمنوني أبلغ رسالة رسول الله ﷺ، فجعل يحدثهم، وأومؤوا إلى رجل، فأتاه من خلفه فطعنه- قال همام أحسبه- حتى أنفذه بالرمح، قال: الله أكبر، فزت ورب الكعبة، فلحق الرجل، فقتلوا كلهم غير الأعرج، كان في رأس جبل، فأنزل الله علينا، ثم كان من المنسوخ: إنا قد لقينا ربنا فرضي عنا وأرضانا. فدعا النبي ﷺ عليهم ثلاثين صباحا، على رعل وذكوان وبني لحيان وعصية. الذين عصوا الله ورسوله ﷺ.
