"Nephew, your father was among them, both Zubayr and Abu Bakr. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ suffered what he suffered on the day of Uhud, and the polytheists withdrew from him, he feared that they might return. He asked, 'Who will go after them?' Seventy men volunteered from among them, and Abu Bakr and Zubayr were among them."
في قوله تعالى: {الذين استجابوا لله والرسول من بعد ما أصابهم القرح للذين أحسنوا منهم واتقوا أجر عظيم} [آل عمران: ١٧٢]
يا ابن أختي كان أبوك منهم: الزبير وأبو بكر. لما أصاب رسول الله ﷺ ما أصاب يوم أحد، وانصرف عنه المشركون خاف أن يرجعوا قال: من يذهب في أثرهم؟ فانتدب منهم سبعون رجلا قال: كان فيهم أبو بكر والزبير.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4077), from Muhammad (that is, Ibn Salam), who said, Abu Muawiya narrated to us, from Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it.Ibn Hajar said, Among them were named Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Ammar bin Yasir, Talha, Saad bin Abu Waqqas, Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, Abu Ubayda, Huzaifa, and Ibn Masud. Tabarani reported this from the hadith of Ibn Abbas. Fath al-Bari (7/374).Muhammad bin Ishaq mentioned, as recorded in Sirat bin Hisham (2/101–102), that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out until he reached Hamra al-Asad, which is eight miles from Madinah. He said, He stayed there Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, then returned to Madinah. This was because Abu Sufyan and the polytheists with him had thought about returning to Madinah to confront the remaining Muslims, but Mabad bin Abu Mabad Khuzai passed by them and told them, "Muhammad has set out with his companions seeking you, in a gathering the like of which I have never seen, burning with rage against you." He advised them to return to Makkah, and they did so.
