The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Basisah as a scout to find out what Abu Sufyan's caravan was doing. He came back when there was no one in the house except myself and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He reported the news to him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then went out and addressed the people, saying, "We have a target to pursue, so whoever has his mount ready, let him ride out with us."Some men began asking his permission to fetch their mounts from the upper part of Madinah, but he said, "No, only those whose mounts are already at hand."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Leadership (1901) through various routes from Hashim bin Qasim, who said, "Sulayman (that is, Ibn Mughira) told us, from Thabit, from Anas," and he related it.When Abu Sufyan learned of the Prophet's ﷺ departure with his companions toward him, he sent Damdam bin Amr Ghifari to Makkah to seek reinforcement from Quraysh. His story is connected with the vision of Atikah bint Abdul-Muttalib.
