The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "On the Day of Resurrection, I will be the leader of the prophets, their spokesman, and the one entrusted with their intercession, and I say this without boasting."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا كان يوم القيامة كنت إمام النبيين وخطيبهم، وصاحب شفاعتهم غير فخر.
Hasan. Tirmidhi related it following hadith number (3613), and Ibn Majah (4314), both from the hadith of Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from Tufayl bin Abu bin Kaab, from his father, and he related it.Imam Ahmad related it (21245), and Ibn Abu Asim in Sunnah (787), and Hakim (4/78), who said, "Its isnad is sahih, though the two of them [Bukhari and Muslim] did not narrate it in this wording."I say, it is only hasan, and Tirmidhi said the same, because it contains Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, who is disputed, though his hadith is considered hasan. On this topic there is also a report from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said, the Messenger of Allah said, "I am the master of the children of Adam on the Day of Resurrection, without boasting. In my hand is the banner of praise, without boasting. There is no prophet on that day, from Adam onward, except that he will be beneath my banner. And I am the first for whom the earth will split open, without boasting." He said, "The people will be seized with terror three times..." and he related the hadith in full, similar to the hadith of Abu Hurairah about the gathering. Its isnad is daif, and the hadith will come in full later.Tirmidhi related it (3148, 3615) from Ibn Abu Umar, he said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Ali bin Zayd bin Jadan, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Saeed, and he related the hadith in full. Tirmidhi said, "A hasan hadith. Some of them related this hadith from Abu Nadra, from Ibn Abbas, the hadith in full." I say, rather it is daif, for Ali bin Zayd bin Jadan is daif.As for the hadith of Ibn Abbas, it is what Ahmad related (2546) from Affan, he said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, from Ali bin Zayd, from Abu Nadra, who said, Ibn Abbas gave us a sermon from the pulpit of Basra, and said, the Messenger of Allah said (and he related the hadith) in full, similar to the hadith of Abu Hurairah about the gathering. On this topic there is also a report from Jabir bin Abdullah, that the Prophet said, "I am the leader of the messengers, without boasting. I am the seal of the prophets, without boasting. I am the first intercessor, and the first whose intercession is accepted, without boasting." Darimi related it (50), and Tabarani in Awsat (172), and Bayhaqi in Itiqad (p. 192), and in his Dalail (5/480), all of them through routes from Bakr bin Mudar, from Jafar bin Rabia, from Salih bin Ata bin Khabab, the freedman of Banu Duayl, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, from Jabir, and he related it.Haythami said in Majma (8/254), "Tabarani related it in Awsat, and it contains Salih bin Ata bin Khabab, whom I do not know, and the rest of its narrators are reliable." I say, so he said, even though he has a biography in Thiqat (6/455), which is his main reference for verifying narrators' reliability. Perhaps the copy he had was missing this biography. Moreover, I have not found anyone verifying his reliability besides Ibn Hibban, and no one is mentioned as having narrated from him except Jafar bin Rabia, so he is counted among the unknown narrators. On this topic there is also a report from Abdullah bin Salam, who said, the Messenger of Allah said, "I am the master of the children of Adam on the Day of Resurrection, without boasting. I am the first for whom the earth will split open. I am the first intercessor and the first whose intercession is accepted. In my hand is the banner of praise, and beneath me is Adam and all who came after him."Ibn Hibban related it in his Sahih (6478) from Ahmad bin Ali bin Muthanna (who is Abu Yaala, and the hadith is in his Musnad (7493)), he said, Amr bin Muhammad Naqid narrated to us, he said, Amr bin Uthman Kullabi narrated to us, he said, Musa bin Ayun narrated to us, from Muamar bin Rashid, from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abu Yaqub, from Bishr bin Shafaf, from Abdullah bin Salam, and he related it. Ibn Abu Asim also related it in Sunnah (793) through another route from Amr bin Uthman, with his isnad, in abridged form. Its isnad is daif because of Amr bin Uthman bin Sayyar Kullabi. Abu Hatim said, "They criticize him. He was a blind elderly man in Raqqa, who narrated to people from memory hadiths that were objectionable." Nasai and Azdi said, "His hadith is abandoned." Despite this, Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat (8/473) and said, "He sometimes erred," yet he narrated from him in his Sahih, which is evidence of his leniency. Haythami criticized it on this basis in Majma (8/254), saying, after attributing it to Abu Yaala, "It contains Amr bin Uthman Kullabi, whom Ibn Hibban deemed reliable despite his weakness, and the rest of its narrators are reliable."On this topic there is also a report, as a raised report, from Abu Darda, "I am the first who will be given permission for sujud on the Day of Resurrection, and I am the first who will be given permission to raise his head." And he related the hadith in full. Imam Ahmad related it (21737) from Hasan, he said, Ibn Lahia narrated to us, he said, Yazid bin Habib narrated to us, from Abdul-Rahman bin Jubayr, from Abu Darda, and he related it.There is well-known criticism of Ibn Lahia, and Abdul-Rahman bin Jubayr did not hear from Abu Darda. This hadith was also related through other chains from Ibn Lahia, and there is severe confusion among them. It seems clear that this confusion goes back to Ibn Lahia himself, for he changed after his books were burned, and afterward he could not reliably preserve either the wording of the hadith or its isnad. On this topic there is also a report from Ibn Abbas, who said, some of the companions of the Prophet sat waiting for him. He came out, and as he approached them, he heard them discussing among themselves, so he listened to their conversation. One of them was saying, "How amazing, that Allah took a close friend from among His creation, for Ibrahim is His close friend." Another said, "That is no more amazing than," "and Allah spoke to Musa directly" [Nisa 4:164]. Another said, "And Isa is the word of Allah and His spirit." Another said, "And Adam, Allah chose him."He then came out to them, greeted them, and said, "I have heard your talk and your amazement. Ibrahim is the close friend of Allah, and that is true. Musa is His confidant, and that is true. Isa is His spirit and His word, and that is true. Adam, Allah Most High chose him, and that is true. But I am the beloved of Allah, without boasting. I am the bearer of the banner of praise on the Day of Resurrection, without boasting. I am the first intercessor and the first whose intercession is accepted on the Day of Resurrection, without boasting. I am the first to knock at the ring of the gate of Paradise, without boasting. Allah will open it and admit me into it, along with the poor among the believers, without boasting. And I am the most honored of the first and the last in the sight of Allah, without boasting."Tirmidhi related it (3616), and Darimi (48), both from the hadith of Ubaydullah bin Abdul-Majid, he said, Zama bin Abu Salih narrated to us, from Salama bin Wahram, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he related it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a rare hadith," meaning daif.I say, it is as he said, for Zama bin Abu Salih, who is Jundi Yamani, Abu Wahb, is daif by consensus of the scholars.Hafiz bin Kathir said in his Tafsir, "This is a rare hadith from this route, and some parts of it have corroborating evidence in the sahih collections and elsewhere." I say, it is as he said, and mention of this corroborating evidence has already preceded.
