I set off and came upon a shepherd driving his flock. I asked him, "Whose man are you?"He replied, "I belong to a man from Quraysh," and he named him, and I recognized the name.I asked, "Is there any milk in your flock?"He said, "Yes."I asked, "Will you milk some for me?"He said, "Yes."So I instructed him, and he caught hold of a ewe from his flock. Then I told him to wipe the dust from her udder, and to dust off his hands. He struck one palm against the other like this. He milked a small quantity of milk into a vessel. I had prepared for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a water skin with a cloth tied over its mouth, so I poured water onto the milk until the bottom of it was cooled.Then I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Drink, Messenger of Allah."He drank until I was satisfied.
انطلقت فإذا أنا براعي غنم يسوق غنمه، فقلت: لمن أنت؟ قال: لرجل من قريش فسماه فعرفته، فقلت: هل في غنمك من لبن؟ فقال: نعم، فقلت: هل أنت حالب لي؟ قال: نعم، فأمرته فاعتقل شاة من غنمه، ثم أمرته أن ينفض ضرعها من الغبار، ثم أمرته ينفض كفيه فقال: هكذا ضرب إحدى كفيه بالأخرى، فحلب كتبة من لبن، وقد جعلت لرسول الله ﷺ إداوة على فمها خرقة، فصيبت على اللبن حتى برد أسفله فانتهيت إلى النبي ﷺ فقلت: اشرب يا رسول الله، فشرب حتى رضيت.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on found property (2439), through two routes from Israil, from Abu Ishaq, who said, Bara told me, from Abu Bakr, and he related it.His saying, "Are you a milker?" means, do you have permission to milk for passersby, according to the custom of the Arabs.
