Malik narrated it in the chapter on qibla (10) from Khubayb bin Abdul-Rahman, from Hafs bin Asim, from Abu Hurairah, or from Abu Saeed Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and then mentioned it. Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Itisam (7335) through the route of Malik, without doubt, from the hadith of Abu Hurairah. Muslim likewise narrated it in Hajj (1391) through two routes, Yahya bin Saeed and Ibn Numayr, both from Ubaydullah bin Umar, from Khubayb bin Abdul-Rahman, with a similar chain. Bukhari also narrated it through the route of Yahya (1196), which shows that the uncertainty came from Malik.However, Ibn Abu Asim narrated it in Sunnah (731) through two routes from Abu Usama and Ibn Numayr, both from Ubaydullah bin Umar with his chain, and likewise in some copies of Muwatta, where they said, "what is between my grave" instead of "my house." Yet Muslim also narrated it through the route of Ibn Numayr and did not mention "my grave" in it. As for Bukhari, he narrated it through the route of Yahya bin Saeed, from Ubaydullah, and likewise Muslim, and neither of them mentioned "my grave."However, Bukhari titled the chapter with his statement, "Chapter on the merit of what is between the grave and the pulpit." Nawawi likewise titled it this way in Sahih Muslim, and perhaps that was based on what the matter later became, because the grave came to be within the house.As for the mention of the grave in the elevated hadith, it is anomalous, because the grave did not exist and was not known when the Prophet ﷺ spoke this hadith. So it is not conceivable that he would define for them the noble garden as what lies between the well-known pulpit and the unknown grave, unless it is said that some narrators narrated it according to the meaning, based on what the grave later came to be.As for his saying, "My pulpit is upon my pond," Zarqani said, "The pulpit upon which he made this statement will be transferred on the Day of Resurrection and set up at his pond."
