An elder from Banu Malik bin Kinanah related to me, saying, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ making his way through the market of Majaz, calling out, 'People, say there is no god but Allah and you will succeed.'Abu Jahl was throwing dust at him and shouting, 'People, do not let this man lead you away from your religion. He only wants you to abandon your gods and forsake al-Lat and al-Uzza.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid him no attention."We said, "Describe the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for us."He said, "He was wearing two red garments, of medium height, full-bodied, with a handsome face, intensely black hair, very fair complexion, and abundant hair."
حدثني شيخ من بني مالك بن كنانة قال: رأيت رسول الله ﷺ بسوق المجاز يتخللها يقول: يا أيها الناس قولوا لا إله إلا الله تفلحوا. قال: وأبو جهل يحثي عليه التراب ويقول: يا أيها الناس لا يغرنكم هذا عن دينكم، فإنما يريد لتتركوا آلهتكم وتتركوا اللات والعزى، قال: وما يلتفت إليه رسول الله ﷺ قال: قلنا: انعت لنا رسول الله ﷺ قال: بين بردين أحمرين، مربوع، كثير اللحم، حسن الوجه، شديد سواد الشعر، أبيض شديد البياض، سابغ الشعر.
Ahmad narrated it (16603, 23192) from Abu Nadr, who said, Shayban narrated to us from Ashath, who said, then he related it. Abu Naeem also narrated it in Marifah Sahabah (3608) with another chain of transmission from Ashath, in similar wording. Its chain is sahih. Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid (6/21–22) and said, "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of sahih."I say, it is as he said, for Abu Nadr is Hashim bin Qasim bin Muslim Laythi, their client, well known by his kunya, and one of the narrators found in the collective books. Shayban is Ibn Abdul-Rahman Tamimi, their client, the grammarian, attributed to "Nahwah," a clan of Azd, not to the science of grammar, he too is one of the narrators found in the collective books.Ahmad also narrated it (23151) from Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shubah narrated to us from Ashath, who said, I heard a man, during the governorship of Ibn Zubayr, say, I heard a man in the market of Ukaz saying, "O people, say, there is no god but Allah, and you will succeed," while another man was following him saying, "This man wants to turn you away from your gods." Suddenly, there were the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Jahl. Its chain is also sahih.Ashath is Ibn Abu Shatha, whose name was Sulaym, Muharibi, Kufi, one of the narrators found in the collective books.
