He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When the Quraysh denied me, I stood in the Hijr, and Allah revealed Bayt al-Maqdis to my view, so I began telling them about its features while I was looking at it."
أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول: لما كذبني قريش قمت في الحجز، فجلا الله لي بيت المقدس، فطفقت أخبرهم عن آياته وأنا أنظر إليه.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Virtues (3886), and Muslim in the Book of Faith (170), both from the hadith of Layth, from Aqeel, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman, who said, "I heard Jabir bin Abdullah say," then he related the hadith. Bukhari also related it (4710) through another route, from the hadith of Ibn Wahb, who said, Yunus informed me, from Ibn Shihab, who said, Abu Salama said, "I heard Jabir bin Abdullah say," then he related something similar.Bukhari said, Yaqub bin Ibrahim added, our teacher, the nephew of Ibn Shihab, narrated to us from his uncle, "When Quraysh accused me of lying, when I was taken by night to Bayt al-Maqdis..." and he related something similar.His statement "from his uncle" apparently carries the same chain of transmission mentioned earlier, but Ibn Hajar, in Fath al-Bari (8/392), treated it as a suspended report (muallaq), and therefore said, Dhuhli connected it in Zuhriyyat from Yaqub with this chain. Qasim bin Thabit also related it in his book Dalail through this route, with the wording, "Some people from Quraysh came to Abu Bakr and said, 'What do you think of your companion, who claims that he went to Bayt al-Maqdis and then returned to Makkah in a single night?' Abu Bakr said, 'Did he really say that?' They said, 'Yes.' He said, 'He has told the truth.'" End of quote.And in the Dalail of Bayhaqi, he said, "Yes, I believe him in something even farther than that. I believe him regarding news from the heavens." He said, "And for that he was named the truthful one (Siddiq)."
