The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When we reached Bayt al-Maqdis, Jibreel pointed with his finger and bored a hole in the rock, then tied Buraq to it."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: لما انتهينا إلى بيت المقدس قال جبريل بإصبعه فحفر به الحجر، وشد به البراق.
Tirmidhi related it, (3132), and Ibn Hibban declared it sahih (47), as did Hakim (2/360), all of them via Zubayr bin Junada, from Abdullah bin Burayda, from his father, and he mentioned it. In Ibn Hibban's wording, "Jibreel pierced the rock with his finger." Tirmidhi said, "hasan gharib." I say, its chain is hasan because of Zubayr bin Junada, for Ibn Main deemed him trustworthy, as found in Suwalat Ibn Junayd (p. 279), and a number of narrators transmitted from him. Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators and included his hadith in his Sahih. Hakim said, "A trustworthy man from Marw." Abu Hatim said, "A shaykh who is not well known," meaning he does not have many narrations. Dhahabi mentioned him in Al-Mizan and said, "Whoever claimed he was unknown erred, and had Ibn Jawzi not mentioned him, I would not have mentioned him."I say, someone like this makes his hadith hasan. See also the lengthy hadith of Anas about tying the Buraq to the ring by which the prophets tie their mounts. There is no contradiction between the two hadiths, for the ring may well have been in the rock.
