No one had accepted Islam except on the day I accepted it. I remained for seven days as one of three who embraced Islam.
ما أسلم أحد إلا في اليوم الذي أسلمت فيه، ولقد مكثت سبعة أيام، وإني لثلث الإسلام.
Bukhari narrated it in the Virtues of the Companions (3727), from Ibrahim bin Musa, who said, Ibn Abu Zaida informed us, who said, Hashim bin Hashim bin Utba bin Abu Waqqas narrated to us. He said, I heard Saeed bin Musayab say, I heard Saad bin Abu Waqqas say, and then he mentioned it.Abu Usama followed him in narrating it, saying, Hashim narrated to us.I say, the author extracted it in the Virtues of the Companions (3858), from Ishaq, who said, Abu Usama narrated to us with his chain, similarly. His statement, "a third of Islam," means that he was the third person after Abu Bakr and Khadijah. But this conflicts with the hadith of Ammar. Perhaps Saad bin Abu Waqqas did not know that others besides him had also embraced Islam, because of these people's concealment of their Islam.
