A neighbor of Khadijah bint Khuwaylid related that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say to Khadijah, "Khadijah, by Allah, I will not worship al-Lat. By Allah, I will never worship al-Uzza."Khadijah would reply, "Leave al-Lat, leave al-Uzza."He said, these were the idols they used to worship, after which they would lie down to sleep.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (17947) from Abu Usama Hammad bin Usama, who said, Hisham, meaning Ibn Urwa, told us, from his father, who said, and then he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. The one who reported it is a companion, and the fact that his name is not specified does not harm the narration. Haythami mentioned it in Majma (8/225) and said, "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih."The more apparent view is that the incident took place before the prophetic mission began, because after the mission began, the matter of Lat and Uzza was well known.
