One day I was walking with the Prophet ﷺ when I touched one of the idols.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Do not touch it."I said to myself, "I will go back and see what he says," so I touched it again.He said, "Were you not forbidden from doing this?"By the One who honored him and sent down the Book to him, he never touched a single idol after that, until Allah honored him and revealed the Book to him.
طفقت مع النبي ﷺ ذات يوم، فلمست بعض الأصنام. فقال لي رسول الله ﷺ: لا تمسها فقلت: لأعودن حتى أبصر ما يقول ثم مسستها فقال: ألم تنه عن هذا؟ قال: فوالذي أكرمه، وأنزل عليه الكتاب ما مس منها صنما، حتى أكرمه الله، وأنزل عليه الكتاب.

Tabarani related it in Kabir (5/88), from Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal, who said, my father narrated to me, Abu Usama narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Amr, from Abu Salama and Yahya bin Abdul-Rahman bin Hatib, from Usama bin Zayd, from his father, and he mentioned it.Bazzar also related it, Kashf Astar (2755), and Abu Yaala (7212), and Nasai in Kubra (8132), and Hakim (3/216–217), all of them through the hadith of Abu Usama with his chain, some of them giving it at length and some giving an abridged version as I have mentioned.Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."Haythami said in Majma (8/226), its narrators are the narrators of the sahih.I say, its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Amr, for his hadith is hasan.
