When the Muhajirun arrived in Madinah from Makkah, they came with nothing in their possession, while the Ansar were the people of the land and property. The Ansar shared with them on the condition that they would give them a portion of the yearly produce of their estates, while the Muhajirun were spared the labor and upkeep.Umm Anas bin Malik, who was called Umm Sulaym, was the mother of Abdullah bin Abu Talha, who was Anas's brother through his mother. She had given the Messenger of Allah ﷺ some of her date palms, and the Messenger of Allah gave them to Umm Ayman, his freedwoman, the mother of Usama bin Zayd.Ibn Shihab said, Anas bin Malik informed me that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished fighting the people of Khaybar and returned to Madinah, the Muhajirun returned to the Ansar the gifts of produce they had granted them. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned to my mother her date palms, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave Umm Ayman the equivalent from his own grove.Ibn Shihab said, Umm Ayman, the mother of Usama bin Zayd, had been a maidservant of Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, and she was Abyssinian. When Aminah gave birth to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after his father had died, Umm Ayman cared for him until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ grew up, then he freed her. He then married her to Zayd bin Haritha. She died five months after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Gifts (2630), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (1771:70), both of them via the route of Ibn Wahb, who said, Yunus told me, from Ibn Shihab, from Anas bin Malik, who said, then he mentioned it. The wording given is Muslim's.As for his statement, "Ibn Shihab said," this is mursal. As for his statement, "then she died five months after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," this contradicts what Ibn Saad recorded in his Tabaqat (8/226) with a sahih chain, from Tariq bin Shihab, who said, when the Prophet ﷺ passed away, Umm Ayman wept. She was asked, "What makes you weep?" She said, "I weep for the news from heaven having ceased."And with his chain, he said, when Umar was killed, Umm Ayman wept. She was asked, and she said, "Today Islam itself has been struck."Waqidi said, Umm Ayman died during the caliphate of Uthman.Hafiz said in Isabah, in the biography entry of "Umm Ayman," "Ibn Sakan reconciled the two statements by saying that the one mentioned by Zuhri, who was the freedwoman of the Prophet ﷺ, is different from the one mentioned by Tariq bin Shihab, who was the freedwoman of Umm Habiba, and that each of them was named Baraka and was known by the kunya Umm Ayman, though this is a stretch." End of quote.
