Anas bin Malik reported,
A man asked, "Messenger of Allah, where is my father?"He replied, "In the Fire."When the man turned to leave, the Prophet called him back and said, "My father and your father are in the Fire."

أن رجلا قال: يا رسول الله أين أبي؟ قال: في النار فلما قفى دعاه فقال: إن أبي وأباك في النار
Muslim reported it in the Book of Faith (203), from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, Affan narrated to us, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas, and he mentioned it. In it, whoever died during the interval period holding to what the Arabs held to of idol worship is among the people of the Fire, and this is not a punishment before the reaching of the call, for the call of Ibrahim 
had indeed reached these people.His saying, "My father and your father are both in the Fire," is an instance of good companionship, offering comfort through shared affliction. Nawawi noted this.
