Abu Raja said, "We used to worship stones. Whenever we found a stone better than the one we had, we would discard the first and take the new one. If we could not find a stone, we would gather a mound of dirt, bring a sheep, milk it over the mound, and then circumambulate it. When the month of Rajab arrived, we would call it 'the remover of spearheads,' and we would not leave any spear or arrow with an iron tip without pulling out the iron and discarding it for the month of Rajab."I heard Abu Raja say, "On the day the Prophet ﷺ was sent, I was a young boy tending camels for my family. When we heard of his coming, we fled toward the fire, to Musaylimah the Liar."
Bukhari narrated it in Al-Maghazi (4376-4377) from Salit bin Muhammad, who said, I heard Mahdi bin Maymun say, I heard Abu Raja Al-Utaridi say, and then he mentioned it.His statement, "his emergence," means his triumph over his people, Quraysh, and what is meant by it is the conquest of Makkah. That is, Abu Raja did not embrace Islam until after the killing of Musaylima the liar, and his Islam was good. He was a mukhadram and reliable narrator.
