Isa was granted his defense, for Allah Himself prompted him in His words, "And when Allah said, Isa son of Maryam, did you say to the people, Take me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?" [Maidah 5:116]Abu Hurairah reported from the Prophet ﷺ that Allah prompted him with the reply, "Glory be to You! It is not for me to say what I have no right to say. Had I said it, You would surely have known it. You know what is within me, and I do not know what is within You. Indeed, it is You who knows all that is hidden" [Maidah 5:116].
Tirmidhi (3062) and Nasai in Al-Kubra (11097) both narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin Yahya bin Abu Umar Adani, who said, Sufyan bin Uyayna narrated to us, from Amr bin Dinar, from Tawus, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and then he mentioned it.
