The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Listen, I will go ahead of you to the Pool, and I will take pride in your numbers before the other nations, so do not fight one another after I am gone."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ألا إني فرطكم على الحوض، وإني مكاثر بكم الأمم، فلا تقتتلن بعدي.
Ibn Majah (3944) narrated it from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr, who said, "My father and Muhammad bin Bishr told us, they said, Ismail told us, from Qays, from Sanabih," and he related it. Its isnad is sahih. Ismail here is Ibn Abu Khalid, and Qays is Ibn Abu Hazim. It was also recorded by Imam Ahmad (19069), Ibn Abu Asim in Sunnah (739), and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (5985, 6446, 6447), through various routes from Ismail bin Abu Khalid with his isnad, similarly, except that some abridged it, and some said "Sanabihi" with a ya, which is an error, as the Hafiz explained in Tahdheeb, citing Ibn Madini, Bukhari, Yaqub bin Shayba, and others.Sanabih, with the first letter having a damma, then a nun, is Ibn Aasar Ahmasi, a companion who settled in Kufa. His hearing from the Prophet ﷺ is established, as stated explicitly in Musnad Imam Ahmad and Sunnah by Ibn Abu Asim.Ibn Hibban said in his Sahih, following his mention of the hadith, "Sanabih is one of the companions, while Sanabihi is one of the successors."I say, the narrator in this hadith is Sanabih bin Aasar, as stated above, and there is no disagreement about his being a companion. Sanabihi is Abdul-Rahman bin Usayla, Abu Abdullah Sanabihi, one of the senior successors.Abdullah Sanabihi is another companion, for whom Malik narrated in the Muwatta, and there is disagreement about whether he was a companion. He narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, from Abu Bakr, and from Ubada bin Samit. Ata bin Yasar narrated from him.Ibn Main said, "Abdullah Sanabihi is narrated from by the people of Madinah, and it appears likely that he was a companion."I say, he is not the one we are concerned with in this hadith.
