Ayesha reported,

In her account of the slander, the Prophet ﷺ said, "If you are innocent, Allah will clear you, and if you have fallen into a sin, then seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him."Aisha said, "By Allah, I can find no comparison for myself except the father of Yusuf, 'And they brought his shirt stained with false blood. He said, Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one whose help is sought against what you describe'" [Yusuf 12:18].Then Allah revealed, "Indeed, those who brought forth the slander are a group among you. Do not think it bad for you, rather it is good for you. Every one of them will bear what he has earned of the sin, and the one who took upon himself the greater share of it will have a great punishment" [Nur 24:11], the ten verses.
