Ibn Hibban (6190) narrated it from Muhammad bin Umar bin Yusuf, who said, Muhammad bin Abdul-Malik bin Zanjuwayh narrated to us, Abu Tuba narrated to us, Muawiya bin Salam narrated to us, from his brother Zayd bin Salam, who said, I heard Abu Salam say, I heard Abu Umama mention it. Its sourcing was already covered in the Book of Faith.It has also been narrated with a sahih chain from Ibn Abbas in similar wording, as a stopped report. Tabari narrated it in his Tarikh (1/178) from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Hammam narrated to us, from Qatada, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who said, "Between Nuh and Adam, peace be upon them both, there were ten generations, all of them following a way of truth, then they differed, so Allah sent the prophets as bringers of good news and warners."The word "generation" (qarn) here is meant to signify a hundred years, and this is the more apparent meaning. It has also been said that it means a generation of people, and the generation before Nuh lived very long lifespans, like a thousand years, in which case "ten generations" would mean thousands of years, the number of which only Allah knows .
