The Prophet ﷺ said, "I will go ahead of you to the Pool, and I will contend over certain people but will be overcome regarding them. I will say, 'My Lord, my companions, my companions!' And it will be said, 'You do not know what they introduced after you.'"
عن النبي ﷺ قال: أنا فرطكم على الحوض، ولانازعن أقواما ثم لأغلبن عليهم. فأقول: يا رب أصحابي! أصحابي! فيقال: إنك لا تدري ما أحدثوا بعدك.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Virtues (2297), and through other routes, from Husayn, from Abu Waail, from Huzaifa, from the Prophet ﷺ, similar to the hadith of Amash and Mughira. That is, Muslim did not give the wording of the hadith itself, but rather referred back to the wording of the hadith of Amash and Mughira, from Abu Waail, from Abdullah, as mentioned earlier.As for Bukhari, after recording the hadith of Abdullah bin Masud, he said, "Asim followed him in this, from Abu Waail." He said, "Husayn narrated it from Abu Waail, from Huzaifa, from the Prophet ﷺ." That is, Mughira made this hadith part of the musnad of Abdullah bin Masud, and Asim followed him in that, but Husayn made it part of the musnad of Huzaifa. However, Bukhari did not mention its chain of transmission but rather presented it as a suspended narration (muallaq). For this reason, I have not cited it except from Muslim alone.
