We were traveling with the Prophet ﷺ when the companions became spread out along the road, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his voice with these two verses, "People, be mindful of your Lord. The earthquake of the Hour is a tremendous thing" [Hajj 22:1], up to His words, "the punishment of Allah is severe" [Hajj 22:2]. When his companions heard this they urged their mounts forward, knowing that he was about to say something. He asked, "Do you know what day that is?"They replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "That is the day when Allah will call out to Adam. His Lord will call him and say, 'Adam, send forth the dispatch of the Fire.' Adam will ask, 'My Lord, what is the dispatch of the Fire?' He will answer, 'Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine go to the Fire and one to Paradise.'"The people despaired at this, so much so that not one of them showed a tooth in a smile. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw the state his companions were in, he said, "Keep working and take heart. By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, you are alongside two creations that have never been joined to anything without outnumbering it, Yajuj and Majuj, and those who have died among the children of Adam and the children of Iblis."He said that this lifted some of what the people were feeling. Then the Prophet said, "Keep working and take heart. By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, among all mankind you are no more than a mole on the flank of a camel, or a patch on the foreleg of a beast."
Tirmidhi (3169), Abu Dawud Tayalisi (874), Ahmad (19901), and Hakim (1/28-29, 2/385) all reported it through various routes from Hisham Dastawai, who said, "Qatada told us, from Hasan, from Imran bin Husayn," and he mentioned it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith." And after the hadith of Ali bin Zayd bin Jadan, from Hasan, from Imran, he said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith. It has been reported through more than one route from Imran bin Husayn from the Prophet ﷺ."Hakim said, "This is a hadith sahih in its chain, and the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not include it in full. What I hold is that they both avoided it out of fear of it being a disconnected transmission (irsal). But Hasan did hear from Imran bin Husayn, and most of these additions found in this text are also found with Ma'mar, from Qatada, from Anas. It is sahih according to the criteria of both of them, yet neither of them included it." And in the second place he said, "Sahih in its chain, and most of the scholars of Basra hold that Hasan did hear from Imran, except that the two sheikhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not include it."I say, however most scholars hold that Hasan did not hear from Imran bin Husayn, among them Yahya Qattan, Ahmad, Ali bin Madini, Yahya bin Main, and Abu Hatim. Moreover, he was known to practice tadlis and did not explicitly state that he heard it directly, but he was corroborated. Tabarani reported it in Mujam al-Kabir (18/218) and Hannad bin Sari in Zuhd (1/148), both through the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba, from Qatada, from Ala bin Ziyad, from Imran bin Husayn, and he mentioned something similar. With this corroboration, the hadith is confirmed as sahih.
