The Prophet ﷺ said, "I will go ahead of you to the Pond. Some men among you will be raised up to me, then they will be snatched away from me. I will say, 'My Lord, my companions!' But it will be said, 'You do not know what they introduced after you.'"
عن النبي ﷺ قال: أنا فرطكم على الحوض، وليرفعن رجال منكم ثم ليختلجن دوني، فأقول: يا رب أصحابي؟ فيقال: إنك لا تدري ما أحدثوا بعدك.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Softening of Hearts (6576), and Muslim in the Book of Virtues (2297), both from the hadith of Shubah, from Mughira, who said, I heard Abu Waail narrate from Abdullah, and he mentioned it. The wording given is Bukhari's. In Muslim's wording, "And I will surely contend with some people, then I will surely overcome them..."
