He had a small storage alcove containing dates, and the ghoul kept coming and taking from it. He complained about this to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Go, and when you see her, say, 'In the name of Allah, answer the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'"So he caught her, and she swore she would not return, so he let her go. He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who asked, "What did your captive do?"He replied, "She swore she would not return."The Prophet said, "She lied. She will return to lying."So he caught her again, and she swore she would not return, and he let her go. He came to the Prophet ﷺ, who asked, "What did your captive do?"He replied, "She swore she would not return."The Prophet said, "She lied. She will return to lying."So he caught her once more and said, "I will not let you go until I take you to the Prophet ﷺ."She said, "Let me tell you something. The Verse of the Throne, recite it in your house, and no devil or anything else will come near you."He came to the Prophet ﷺ, who asked, "What did your captive do?"He told him what she had said. The Prophet said, "She told the truth, though she is a habitual liar."
Tirmidhi (2880), Ahmad (23592), and Tabarani in al-Kabir (4/193) all narrated it through Abu Ahmad Zubayri, who said, our teacher was Sufyan, from Ibn Abu Layla, from his brother Isa, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla, from Abu Ayub Ansari, who related it.The narrators of this chain are all trustworthy except for Ibn Abu Layla, who is Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla. There is disagreement about him because of the weakness of his memory, but he has corroboration.Tabarani in al-Kabir (4/193) and Abu Shaykh in al-Azamah (1093) both narrated it through Ishaq bin Ibrahim Shazan, who said, our teacher was Saad bin Salt, from Amash, from Abdullah bin Yasar, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla, from Abu Ayub, in similar wording. The narrators of this chain are trustworthy except for Ishaq bin Ibrahim Shazan, who is truthful, and his teacher Saad bin Salt, whom Ibn Hibban mentioned in al-Thiqat (1/378) and Ibn Abu Hatim mentioned in al-Jarh wal-Tadil. Ibn Hibban said, "He may occasionally report something unusual." Abdullah bin Yasar is al-Juhani, and he has other routes of transmission from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla found in Tabarani.Through these routes, the hadith rises to the level of hasan.
