The Prophet ﷺ said, "While I was at the House, between sleep and wakefulness..." and he then recounted the hadith of the Night Journey and Ascension, in which he said:"We came to the seventh heaven. It was asked, 'Who is this?'The reply came, 'Jibreel.'It was asked, 'Who is with you?'The reply came, 'Muhammad.'It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?'The reply came, 'Welcome to him, and what an excellent arrival.'I came upon Ibrahim and greeted him, and he said, 'Welcome, righteous son and righteous Prophet.'Then the Frequented House was raised up for me, and I asked Jibreel about it. He said, 'This is the Frequented House. Seventy thousand angels pray in it every day, and once they leave it they never return to it, this being the last of their duties.'Then the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary was raised up for me."
قال النبي ﷺ: بينا أنا عند البيت بين النائم واليقظان… فذكر حديث الإسراء والمعراج وفيه: فأتينا السماء السابعة قيل: من هذا؟ قيل: جبريل. قيل: من معك؟ قيل: محمد قيل: وقد أرسل إليه؟ مرحبا به ولنعم المجيء جاء فأتيت على إبراهيم فسلمت عليه فقال: مرحبا بك من ابن ونبي فرفع لي البيت المعمور فسألت جبريل فقال: هذا البيت المعمور يصلي فيه كل يوم سبعون ألف ملك إذا خرجوا لم يعودوا إليه آخر ما عليهم ورفعت لي سدرة المنتهى.
Bukhari reported it in the Beginning of Creation (3207), and Muslim in Faith (164:264), both through Qatada, who said, Anas bin Malik narrated to us, from Malik bin Sasaa, and he related it. This wording is that of Bukhari, and the story of Sidrat Muntaha with this chain of transmission does not appear in Sahih Muslim.In another wording found in Bukhari, the mention of Sidrat Muntaha comes first, followed by the mention of the Frequented House. Bukhari reported it in the Virtues (3887) from Hudba bin Khalid, who said, Hammam bin Yahya narrated to us, who said, Qatada narrated to us, from Anas bin Malik, from Malik bin Sasaa, and he related it.
