The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Whom do you count as martyrs among yourselves?"They replied, "Messenger of Allah, whoever is killed in the path of Allah is a martyr."He said, "In that case, the martyrs of my nation would be few."They asked, "Then who are they, Messenger of Allah?"He said, "Whoever is killed in the path of Allah is a martyr, whoever dies in the path of Allah is a martyr, whoever dies of the plague is a martyr, and whoever dies of a stomach ailment is a martyr."Ibn Miqsam said, "I bear witness concerning your father in this hadith that he also said, 'And the one who drowns is a martyr.'"
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ما تعدون الشهيد فيكم؟ قالوا: يا رسول الله من قتل في سبيل الله فهو شهيد. قال: إن شهداء أمتي إذا لقليل قالوا: فمن هم يا رسول الله؟ قال: من قتل في سبيل الله فهو شهيد، ومن مات في سبيل الله فهو شهيد، ومن مات في الطاعون فهو شهيد، ومن مات في البطن فهو شهيد. قال ابن مقسم: أشهد على أبيك في هذا الحديث أنه قال: والغريق شهيد.
Muslim narrated it in "The Book of Leadership" (1915:165), from Zuhayr bin Harb, who reported to us from Jareer, from Suhayl, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and then he mentioned it. As for his saying, "Ibn Miqsam said," this was said by Suhayl bin Abu Salih.
