Nashira bin Sumayy reported,

Jurayy reported, I heard Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, say on the day of al-Jabiyah, while addressing the people, "Allah has made me the custodian of this wealth and the one who distributes it." Then he said, "Rather, it is Allah who distributes it, and I will begin with the family of the Prophet ﷺ, then those next in honor."So he allotted ten thousand to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, except for Juwayriyah, Safiyyah, and Maymuna.Ayesha said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to treat us equally."So Umar treated them equally as well. Then he said, "I will begin with my companions, the early Muhajirun, for we were driven from our homes wrongfully and unjustly, then those most distinguished among them."So he allotted five thousand to those of them who had witnessed Badr, four thousand to those of the Ansar who had witnessed Badr, and three thousand to those who had witnessed Uhud.He said, "Whoever was early in his Hijrah, his stipend will come early, and whoever was late in his Hijrah, his stipend will be delayed. So let no man blame anyone but the resting place of his own mount.And I offer you my justification regarding Khalid bin Walid. I commanded him to reserve this wealth for the weak among the Muhajirun, but he gave it instead to men of might, of nobility, and of eloquent tongue. So I removed him and appointed Abu Ubayda bin al-Jarrah."Then Abu Umar bin Hafs bin Mughira said, "By Allah, you have offered no valid excuse, Umar bin Khattab. You have dismissed an officer whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself appointed, sheathed a sword that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself drew, and lowered a banner that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself raised. You have severed the ties of kinship and envied your cousin."Umar bin Khattab replied, "You are close in kinship, young in age, and angry on behalf of your cousin."

عن ناشرة بن سمي اليزني قال

سمعت عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله تعالى عنه يقول في يوم الجابية وهو يخطب الناس: إن الله عز وجل جعلني خازنا لهذا المال، وقاسمه له، ثم قال: بل الله يقسمه، وأنا بادئ بأهل النبي ﷺ، ثم أشرفهم، ففرض لأزواج النبي ﷺ عشرة آلاف إلا جويرية وصفية وميمونة، فقالت عائشة: إن رسول الله ﷺ كان يعدل بيننا، فعدل بينهن عمر. ثم قال: إني بادئ بأصحابي المهاجرين الأولين، فإنا أخرجنا من ديارنا ظلما وعدوانا، ثم أشرفهم، ففرض لأصحاب بدر منهم خمسة آلاف، ولمن كان شهد بدرا من الأنصار أربعة آلاف، ولمن شهد أحدا ثلاثة آلاف. قال: ومن أسرع في الهجرة أسرع به العطاء، ومن أبطأ في الهجرة أبطأ به العطاء، فلا يلومن رجل إلا مناخ راحلته. وإني أعتذر إليكم من خالد بن الوليد، إني أمرته أن يحبس هذا المال على ضعفةالمهاجرين، فأعطاه ذا البأس، وذا الشرف، وذا اللسانة، فنزعته، وأمرت أبا عبيدة بن الجراح فقال أبو عمرو بن حفص بن المغيرة: والله ماأعذرت يا عمر بن الخطاب، لقد نزعت عاملا استعمله رسول الله ﷺ وغمدت سيفا سله رسول الله ﷺ، ووضعت لواء نصبه رسول الله ﷺ، ولقد قطعت الرحم، وحسدت ابن العم فقال عمر بن الخطاب: إنك قريب القرابة، حديث السن، مغضب من ابن عمك.
