Jubayr bin Mutim reported, "Uthman bin Affan and I went together to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'You have given to the descendants of Muttalib from the fifth of Khaybar's spoils, but you have left us out, even though we and they are equally related to you.'He replied, 'The descendants of Hashim and the descendants of Muttalib are one and the same.'"Jubayr added, "The Prophet ﷺ did not allot anything to the descendants of Abd Shams or the descendants of Nawfal."
مشيت أنا وعثمان بن عفان إلى النبي ﷺ فقلنا: أعطيت بني المطلب من خمس خيبر وتركتنا ونحن بمنزلة واحدة منك فقال: إنما بنو هاشم وبنو المطلب شيء واحد. قال جبير: ولم يقسم النبي ﷺ لبني عبد شمس وبني نوفل شيئا.
Bukhari (4229) narrated it from Yahya bin Bukayr, who said, Layth narrated to us from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab, from Saeed bin Musayab, that Jubayr bin Mutim informed him, saying, then he mentioned it.Abu Dawud (2978) narrated it through the route of Abdullah bin Mubarak, from Yunus, in a similar manner, and added, he said, Abu Bakr used to distribute the fifth in a manner similar to the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ distribution, except that he did not give the relatives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what the Prophet ﷺ used to give them. He said, Umar bin Khattab used to give them from it, and Uthman after him.Abu Dawud also narrated it (2979), and Ahmad (16678), through the route of Uthman bin Umar, from Yunus, in a similar manner, with this addition.
