The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in prayer facing a camel from the spoils of war. When he finished with the salam, he took a piece of fur from the camel's side and said, "Not even something like this from your spoils of war is lawful for me, except the fifth, and the fifth is returned back to you."
صلى بنا رسول الله ﷺ إلى بعير من المغنم فلما سلم أخذ وبرة من جنب البعير، ثم قال: ولا يحل لي من غنائمكم مثل هذا إلا الخمس والخمس مردود فيكم.
Abu Dawud narrated it (2755), and by his route also Bayhaqi (6/339). Walid bin Utbah told us, Walid (that is, Ibn Muslim) told us, Abdullah bin Ala told us that he heard Abu Salam Aswad say, "I heard Amr bin Abasa say," then he related it.Hakim also narrated it (3/616-617) by the route of Muhammad bin Shuayb bin Shabur, from Abdullah bin Ala, with the same wording, and he passed over it in silence. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Walid bin Muslim is a mudallis, but he stated explicitly that he heard directly at every level of the chain.
