I came across a red jar containing gold coins in the land of the Romans during the rule of Muawiya. In charge of us was a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, from Banu Sulaym, named Maan bin Yazid.I brought it to him so he could distribute it among the Muslims. He gave me the same share he gave to any one of them, then said, "Were it not that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, and saw him do it, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There is no extra share except after the fifth has been taken out,' I would have given you more."Then he took from his own portion and offered some of it to me, but I refused, saying, "I am no more entitled to it than you are."
Abu Dawud (2754), Ahmad (15862), and Bayhaqi (6/314) reported it through various routes from Asim bin Kulayb, who said, "Abu Juwayriyah narrated it to me," and he mentioned it. The wording is Ahmad's. Its chain is hasan because of Asim bin Kulayb, for his hadith is hasan.
