The Prophet ﷺ said on the day of Badr, when we had drawn up our ranks against Quraysh and they had drawn up theirs against us, "When they come close to you, use your arrows against them."In another wording, he added, "And conserve your arrows."
قال النبي ﷺ يوم بدر حين صففنا لقريش وصفوا لنا: إذا أكثبوكم فعليكم بالنبل. وزاد في لفظ: واستبقوا نبلكم.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Military Expeditions (2900) from Abu Naeem, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Ghasil narrated to us, from Hamza bin Abu Usayd, from his father, and he mentioned it. He also narrated it in the Book of Military Campaigns (3984) through the route of Abu Ahmad Zubayri, from Abdul-Rahman bin Ghasil, from Hamza bin Abu Usayd and Zubayr bin Mundhir bin Abu Usayd, from his father, and he mentioned it, with the addition mentioned there.Abu Dawud narrated it (2664) through the route of Ishaq bin Najih (not the one known as al-Malati), from Malik bin Hamza bin Abu Usayd Saadi, from his father, from his grandfather, similarly, with the addition, "And do not draw your swords until they close in upon you."In its chain is Ishaq bin Najih, who is unknown, and Malik bin Hamza bin Abu Usayd, whom no one declared reliable except that Ibn Hibban mentioned him among his trustworthy narrators. Bukhari mentioned a hadith of his and said, "It is not corroborated."
