The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The warrior who goes out to fight receives his reward, and the one who sponsors a fighter receives both his own reward and the reward of the warrior."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: للغازي، أجره، وللجاعل أجره وأجر الغازي.
Abu Dawud (2526), Ahmad (6624), and Bayhaqi (9/28) narrated it through routes from Layth bin Saad, who said, Haywa bin Shurayh told me, from Ibn Shufayy Asbahi, from his father, from Abdullah bin Amr, and he related it. Its chain is sahih, and Ibn Shufayy is Husayn bin Shufayy bin Mani.As for his saying, "for the one who equips him is his reward and the reward of the fighter," al-jaail is the active participle from jaala, and the noun is al-jul (with damma on the jeem), which means the payment given for something. This refers to a case where the one equipping has an excuse preventing him from going out to jihad, so he equips the fighter and thereby earns two rewards, a reward for his equipping and a reward for his intention.
