He reported from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he intended to set out on a military expedition and said, "Company of Emigrants and Helpers, among your brothers are men who have no wealth and no clan. Let each of you take along with him two or three such men. None of us has any mount to ride except by taking turns, each man's turn being like the others'."He said, "So I took along with me two or three men, and I had no turn riding my camel except a turn like the turn of any one of them."
حدث عن رسول الله ﷺ: أنه أراد أن يغزو فقال: يا معشر المهاجرين والأنصار، إن من إخوانكم قوما ليس لهم مال، ولا عشيرة، فليضم أحدكم إليه الرجلين أو الثلاثة، فما لأحدنا من ظهر يحمله إلا عقبة كعقبة يعني: أحدهم. قال: فضممت إلي اثنين أو ثلاثة قال: ما لي إلا عقبة كعقبة أحدهم من جملي.
Reported by Abu Dawud (2524), Ahmad (14863), Hakim (2/90), and Bayhaqi (9/172) via the route of Ubayda bin Humayd, from Aswad bin Qays, from Nabeeh Anazi, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who related it. Hakim said, "This hadith has a sahih isnad." I say, it is as he said.
