The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed Abu Bakr as our commander, and we raided a group of polytheists. We attacked them by night, killing them, and our password that night was, "Kill, kill."Salama said, "I killed seven men from the households of the polytheists with my own hand that night."In another wording, "It was the night we raided Hawazin."
أمر رسول الله ﷺ علينا أبا بكر، فغزونا ناسا من المشركين، فبيتناهم، نقتلهم، وكان شعارنا تلك الليلة: أمت أمت. قال سلمة: فقتلت بيدي تلك الليلة سبعة أهل أبيات من المشركين. وفي لفظ: ليلة بيتنا فيها هوازن.
Abu Dawud (2638, 2596) narrated it, as did Nasai in Sunan al-Kubra (2811), Ahmad (16498), Ibn Hibban (4744, 4747, 4748), and Hakim (2/107) - and from him Bayhaqi (6/361) - all of them through various chains from Ikrima bin Ammar, who said, Iyas bin Salama bin Akwa narrated to us, from his father, and he related it. Some of them narrated it in abridged form.Ibn Majah (2840) also narrated it, but without mention of the password.This is a hasan isnad because of Ikrima bin Ammar, for his hadith are hasan. Hakim said, "Its isnad is sahih."
