The Prophet ﷺ addressed the people and said, "Zayd took the banner and was struck down, then Jafar took it and was struck down, then Abdullah bin Rawaha took it and was struck down, then Khalid bin Walid took it without having been appointed, and victory was granted through him."Then he said, "It would not please us that they were here with us."Ayub said, or perhaps he said, "It would not please them that they were here with us," while his eyes were overflowing with tears.
خطب النبي ﷺ، فقال: أخذ الراية زيد فأصيب، ثم أخذها جعفر فأصيب، ثم أخذها عبد الله بن رواحة فأصيب، ثم أخذها خالد بن الوليد عن غير إمرة ففتح له، وقال: ما يسرنا أنهم عندنا. قال أيوب أو قال: ما يسرهم أنهم عندنا. - وعيناه تذرفان.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (2798) from Yusuf bin Yaqub Saffar, who said, our teacher Ismail bin Ulaya narrated to us, from Ayub, from Humayd bin Hilal, from Anas bin Malik, who mentioned it.His saying, "They would not be pleased to be with us," means that because of the honor they witnessed through martyrdom, they would not wish to return to this world as they had been before.
