She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "He is not a liar who reconciles between people, conveying something good or saying something good."Muslim adds that Ibn Shihab said, "I did not hear any allowance given for anything people call lying except in three cases, war, reconciling between people, a man's conversation with his wife, and a woman's conversation with her husband."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Reconciliation (2692), and Muslim in the Book of Righteousness and Kinship Ties (2605), through various routes from Zuhri, that Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman informed him that his mother Umm Kulthum bint Uqba told him, then he related the hadith. His statement, "and I have not heard it permitted... etc." is Zuhri's own statement, and as for what appears in some narrations that it is Umm Kulthum's statement, the scholars have determined that this is an instance of idraj (insertion). See Ilal Daraqutni (15/358), Al-Fasl lil-Wasl al-Mudraj (1/258–275), and Fath al-Bari (5/300).Something to the same effect has been narrated from Asma bint Yazid with Tirmidhi (1939), from Ayesha with Tabari in Tahzib Athar (201), and from Abu Ayub with Abu Awana (6545), and others, but all of these are defective (mu'allal).
