I witnessed battle alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Whenever he did not fight in the early part of the day, he would wait until the breezes stirred and the prayer times arrived.In another wording, I witnessed battle with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Whenever he did not fight in the early part of the day, he would wait until the sun had passed its zenith, the winds began to blow, and Nasr descended.
شهدت القتال مع رسول الله ﷺ كان إذا لم يقاتل في أول النهار انتظر حتى تهب الأرواح، وتحضر الصلوات. وفي لفظ: شهدت مع رسول الله ﷺ فكان إذا لم يقاتل أول النهار انتظر حتى تزول الشمس وتهب الرياح وينزل النصر.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jizya and Truces (3160) from Fadl bin Yaqub, who said, Abdullah bin Jafar Raqqi told us, Mutamir bin Sulayman told us, Saeed bin Ubaydullah Thaqafi told us, Bakr bin Abdullah Muzani and Ziyad bin Jubayr told us, from Jubayr bin Hayya, who said, "Umar sent people out to the far reaches of the garrison towns to fight the polytheists, and Hurmuzan accepted Islam." He then related a long story, at the end of which he said, "Numan said," and related it.The first wording is Bukhari's. The second wording was narrated by Abu Dawud (2655) and Tirmidhi (1613), both by a route through Hammad bin Salama, who said, Abu Imran Jawni told us, from Alqama bin Abdullah Muzani, from Maqil bin Yasar, that Umar bin Khattab sent Numan bin Muqarrin to Hurmuzan, and he related the hadith at length, then said, "Numan bin Muqarrin said," and related it.Its chain of transmission is sahih. Tirmidhi said, This is a hasan sahih hadith.
