The Prophet ﷺ said, "A morning's journey or an evening's journey in the cause of Allah is better than the world and all it contains."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: لغدوة في سبيل الله أو روحة خير من الدنيا وما فيها.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Military Expeditions (2792), and Muslim in the Book of Leadership (1880:112), both through two routes from Anas, who said, then he mentioned it. Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Jihad (2796) through Humayd from Anas with a longer wording. His saying, "one morning journey," al-ghadwah with a fatha, refers to a single instance of ghudow, which is setting out at any time from the beginning of the day until midday. His saying, "and one evening journey," al-rawhah refers to a single instance of rawah, which is setting out at any time from when the sun begins to decline until it sets.
