The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are three about whom you need not ask. A man who has separated from the community, disobeyed his leader, and died in that state of disobedience. A slave woman or slave man who ran away and then died. And a woman whose husband was absent from her, having provided for her worldly needs, yet she adorned herself for others in his absence. Do not ask about them. And there are three others about whom you need not ask. A man who contends with Allah over His cloak, for His cloak is pride and His garment is might. A man who doubts the command of Allah. And one who despairs of the mercy of Allah."
Ahmad reported it (23943), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (4559), as did Hakim (1/119), all of them through the route of Abu Abdul-Rahman Abdullah bin Yazid Muqri, who said, Haywa narrated to us, who said, Abu Hani narrated to us, that Abu Ali Amr bin Malik Janabi narrated to him from Fadala bin Ubayd, and he mentioned it. The wording is Ibn Hibban's. Hakim limited himself to mentioning only the first three points. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith according to the standard of the two Shaykhs, for they both relied on all of its narrators, though they did not report it themselves, and we do not know of any defect in it."I say, the two Shaykhs did not report from Amr bin Malik Janabi in their two Sahihs. Rather, Bukhari reported from him in Adab al-Mufrad, and the authors of the Sunan collections reported from him as well, and he is reliable.
