Abdullah bin Umar came to Abdullah bin Mutee during the events of al-Harrah in the time of Yazid bin Muawiya.Abdullah bin Mutee said, "Place a cushion for Abu Abd al-Rahman."Abdullah bin Umar replied, "I have not come to sit with you. I have come to relate to you a hadith that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever withdraws his hand from obedience will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection with no argument in his defense, and whoever dies without a pledge of allegiance on his neck dies the death of pre-Islamic ignorance.'"
جاء عبد الله بن عمر إلى عبد الله بن مطيع حين كان من أمر الحرة ما كان زمن يزيد بن معاوية فقال: اطرحوا لأبي عبد الرحمن وسادة فقال: إني لم آتك لأجلس، أتيتك لأحدثك حديثا سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقوله سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: من خلع يدا من طاعة لقي الله يوم القيامة لا حجة له، ومن مات وليس في عنقه بيعة مات ميتة جاهلية.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Leadership (1851:58) from Ubaydullah bin Muaz Anbari, who said, my father narrated to us, who said, Asim, who is the son of Muhammad bin Zayd, narrated to us, from Zayd bin Muhammad, from Nafi, who said, then he mentioned it.
