I said, "Messenger of Allah, will you not appoint me to a position of authority?"He struck his hand upon my shoulder and said, "Abu Dharr, you are weak, and it is a trust. On the Day of Resurrection it will be a source of disgrace and regret, except for the one who takes it up by its rightful claim and fulfills what is due from him in it."
قلت: يا رسول الله، ألا تستعملني؟ قال: فضرب بيده على منكبي ثم قال: يا أبا ذر إنك ضعيف وإنها أمانة، وإنها يوم القيامة خزي وندامة إلا من أخذها بحقها، وأدى الذي عليه فيها.
Muslim narrated it in Imarah (1825) from Abdul-Malik bin Shuayb bin Layth, who said, my father Shuayb bin Layth narrated to me, Layth bin Saad narrated to me, Yazid bin Abu Habib narrated to me, from Bakr bin Amr, from Harith bin Yazid Hadrami, from Ibn Hujayra the Elder, from Abu Dharr, who said, and then he mentioned it.
