The Prophet ﷺ said, "You will be eager for leadership, but it will be a source of regret on the Day of Resurrection. What an excellent nurse it is, and what a wretched weaner."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: إنكم ستحرصون على الإمارة وستكون ندامة يوم القيامة، فنعم المرضعة، وبئست الفاطمة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Rulings (7148), from Ahmad bin Yunus, [who said] Ibn Abu Dhib narrated to us, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.His saying, "What an excellent wet-nurse she is, and what a wretched weaner she turns out to be," means, she is an excellent wet-nurse because of the status, wealth, effective authority, and sensory and imagined pleasures that come with holding that position while it lasts. And she is a wretched weaner when separation from it occurs, whether through death or otherwise, along with the consequences that follow from it in the afterlife.Fath al-Bari (13/126).
