Abu Bakra used to have nabidh prepared for him in a clay jar. Abu Barza arrived from a journey he had been on, and before going to his own home he stopped at the house of Abu Bakra. He did not find Abu Bakra at home, so he stood at the door speaking to a woman of his named Maysa, asking her about Abu Bakra and how he was doing. He looked around and noticed the jar containing the nabidh. He asked, "What is in this jar?"She replied, "Nabidh for Abu Bakra."He said, "I would prefer that you put it in a waterskin." Then he left. She gave instructions concerning the nabidh, and it was transferred into a waterskin, which she then hung up. When Abu Bakra came, she told him about Abu Barza and his arrival. Then he noticed the waterskin and asked, "What is this waterskin?"She said, "Abu Barza said such and such, so I transferred your nabidh into the waterskin."He said, "I will not drink any of it. By Allah, if I put honey in a clay jar, would it become forbidden to me? And if I put wine in a waterskin, would it become lawful for me? We know exactly what we were forbidden from. We were forbidden from the gourd, the hollowed stump, the green jar, and the pitch-coated vessel. As for the gourd, we, the people of Thakeef in Taif, used to take gourds, strip clusters of grapes into them, then bury them and leave them until they fermented and went still. As for the hollowed stump, the people of Yamama used to hollow out the base of a palm tree and crush ripe and unripe dates into it, leaving them until they fermented and went still. As for the green jar, these were vessels in which wine used to be brought to us.As for the pitch-coated vessel, it is these containers that have pitch on them."
