Both of them disliked drinking from unripe dates alone, taking this position from Ibn Abbas. Ibn Abbas said, "I fear that this is the muzza which Abdul-Qays were forbidden from."I asked Qatada, "What is muzza?"He replied, "Date-wine prepared in green jars and pitch-coated vessels."
Abu Dawud (3709) narrated it from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, Muaz bin Hisham narrated to us, who said, my father narrated to me, from Qatada, from Jabir bin Zayd and Ikrima, with this account. Its chain of transmission is hasan, due to the discussion surrounding Muaz bin Hisham, who is the son of Abdullah Dastawai, except that his hadith is hasan so long as he does not contradict others. It has also been said in the tafsir of "al-mizr" that it is a mixture of unripe and ripe dates, as mentioned in Nihaya.
