The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from using the gourd, the green jar, the hollowed stump, and barley wine.

Abu Dawud (3697), Nasai (5171, 5171), and Ahmad (963, 1163) all narrated it through various routes from Ismail bin Sumay, who said, Malik bin Umayr narrated to us, from Ali, and he mentioned it. The wording given is that of Abu Dawud.In the first place in the Musnad, it reads, from Malik bin Umayr, who said, "I was sitting with Ali when Sasaa bin Suhan came in and greeted him, then stood and said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, forbid us from what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade you,'" and he mentioned the hadith. Its chain of transmission is sahih.His statement, "and juah," refers to the beverage made from barley, as mentioned in Nihayah.
