The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the use of green glazed jars, gourd containers, and pitch-coated vessels. He said, "I heard him say this more than once."In another narration, he added, "And I think he also mentioned hollowed-out wooden vessels."In yet another narration, earthenware jars are mentioned in place of green glazed jars, with the addition, "Steep your drinks in waterskins."
نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن الحنتم والدباء والمزفت، قال: سمعته غير مرة. وزاد في رواية قال وأراه قال: والنقير وفي رواية جعل الجر مكان الحنتم وزاد: انتبذوا في الأسقية.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Drinks (1997:54) via Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, "Shubah related to us, from Muharib bin Dithar, who said, 'I heard Ibn Umar,'" and then he mentioned it.The second narration is via Shaybani, from Muharib bin Dithar, with the same wording. The third narration (1997:55) is via Shubah, from Uqbah bin Hurayth, from Ibn Umar.
